About the event

Castles of Conquest isn’t just a cycling event — it’s a personal mission turned into a movement.

On Sunday 27th July 2025, cyclists will ride 90 miles through the breathtaking landscapes of North Wales, visiting castles steeped in history — but the real journey is one of mental health, connection, and hope.

I created this event after battling my own mental health struggles in silence for years. On one ride, I found myself talking out loud — not to anyone else, but to myself — because I didn’t feel I could talk to anyone at all. That ride stayed with me. It became the seed of Castles of Conquest. Because no man should have to ride alone — physically or emotionally.

This event supports MANUP?, a charity focused on breaking the stigma around men’s mental health. Through this ride, we’re building a community that rides together, talks together, and supports each other when it matters most.

My name is Paul. I’m a husband, a father, a teacher — and for a long time, I was someone who kept his mental health struggles hidden.

 

For over seven years, I battled quietly with anxiety and depression. I told no one. I thought silence was strength — until it nearly broke me. It wasn’t until I found myself talking out loud during a solo bike ride, just to hear a voice, that I realised how far I’d drifted from connection.

 

That moment stayed with me. It was the beginning of Castles of Conquest — not just as a cycling event, but as a way to turn something dark into something hopeful. A ride for every man who’s ever felt like he had to carry it all alone.

 

I’m not a professional athlete. I’m just someone who loves cycling, history, and helping others. This event is my way of combining those passions to support a cause that needs all of us: men’s mental health.

 

Because no man should have to ride alone — not on the road, and not in life.
